Development Accountant

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for full cycle accounting including journal entries, preparation of monthly and quarterly working paper files and related analysis for a portfolio of properties under development.
  • Preparation of monthly reporting packages including all general journal entries, cash flow reporting for co-ownerships and HST remittances and reporting packages.
  • Processing and preliminary approval of purchase orders as prepared and supported by operations staff (occasional preparation involved as well for corporate PO’s)
  • Opening new accounts, working with the bank staff and completing monthly bank reconciliations on a timely basis
  • Monthly reporting complete with full back up on file for monthly review, including maintaining a variety of workflow reports
  • Preparation of annual budgets from accounting input
  • Manage monthly construction draw process
  • Aiding in setting up and documenting accounting system manuals and policies
  • Providing backup for all internal and external audit requests
  • Create, manage, and improve templates for various development reports.
  • Assist in setting up accounting for new pre-development and development projects
  • Track all project costs and budgets for tenant inducements, renovations, including reconciliation and coding of contractor invoices.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly project proforma status reports
  • Produce monthly reports on project recoverables; prepare monthly reconciliation of tenant and operations receivables
  • Coordinating, reviewing, and analyzing monthly construction progress billing invoices to ensure billing accuracy, fee reconciliation, and ledger balance
  • Assisting with special projects

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education, preferable specialization in Accounting, Business, or Finance
  • Accounting designation (CPA) an asset
  • 3-5 years of experience in the real estate, property management, and/or construction industry
  • Advanced MS Office and Excel skills
  • Self motivated and attention to detail
